Tokyo Tourism SEO: Your Hotel Is Invisible to AI
Last week, before my friend left for Tokyo, she showed me her phone. She hadn’t opened Google. She’d opened ChatGPT and asked where to stay in Asakusa for a traditional vibe under 25,000 yen a night. It named three properties, a paragraph each, with a confident pick. Not one was the beautiful little guesthouse two blocks from me with a 4.7 star Google rating. On Google Maps it looks great. To the AI, it did not exist.
That is the discovery gap quietly reshaping Tokyo hotel bookings. It is not a demand problem. Japan welcomed a record 42.7 million visitors in 2025, and the government is chasing 60 million by 2030. It is a visibility problem. Roughly 40 percent of travelers now plan trips with AI tools, yet one 2025 study found only about 16 percent of hotels appear in AI results. Record tourism means nothing if the AI never names you.
